TUI launches flights to Greece early for 2022 tourist season

German travel giant TUI will launch flights to Greece early this year for the 2022 summer season, according to Stefan Baumert, CEO of TUI Germany.

Speaking at the opening of the ITB Berlin virtual exhibition, Baumert said that TUI Germany, a subsidiary of the world’s largest tourism company, TUI Group, expects a good 2022 summer season. and currently sees no fundamental change in booking behavior despite the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

“In particular, classics around the Mediterranean are in demand and seeing booking growth that even exceeds 2019 levels,” Baumert said, adding that destinations such as Mallorca, the Turkish Riviera and the The Greek Islands are traveler favorites right now.

Regarding Greece, due to the high number of bookings, TUI will kick off the start of the season for the country and provide additional capacity for the Easter holidays. The company will launch flights with its airline TUI fly to Crete, Rhodes and Kos in early April.

TUI’s announcement comes amid Greece kicking off its tourist season and opening up to tourists earlier than ever this year.

It is recalled that TUI Group CEO Fritz Joussen said in January that the company’s plans for this year included bringing 3 million customers to Greece, double the number of travelers TUI brought to Greece. the country last year.

Baumert announced that TUI will launch a total of 120 additional flights in April, with most flights (62) to Greece, followed by Mallorca (48). Additional capacity will also be available for the Cape Verde Islands and Egypt.

“There are currently many indications that business this summer will approach pre-pandemic levels as people yearn for great experiences and travel,” Baumert added.
