Lufthansa Technik opens another maintenance hangar for the Airbus A380 in Manila

While one might think it is simply the maintenance arm of the German flag carrier, the Lufthansa Technik group has more than 35 subsidiaries worldwide. With a workforce of over 20,000, it is one of the world’s leading providers of aeronautical technical services and has just celebrated the opening of a new aircraft overhaul hangar in Manila, Philippines. This will add three additional lines to the seven already existing and will be able to accommodate an Airbus A380.

Completion of the 9,000 square meter hangar was originally scheduled for September 2020, but like so many other projects that year, it had to be postponed. However, it was finally opened with a festive ceremony on Wednesday. The latest addition to Manila Airport’s facilities can be configured as needed to accommodate up to four narrow-body aircraft or one wide-body and two narrow-body aircraft. Alternatively, it could accommodate an Airbus A380.

20% capacity increase

The additional facilities, the fourth hangar in total in Manila, increase the capacity of Lufthansa Technik Philippines by 20%. In addition, it creates 275 additional jobs in the company. Rainer Janke, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Lufthansa Technik Philippines, added his thoughts on the new chapter,

“The opening of the new hangar is Lufthansa Technik Philippines’ response to the growing demand for aircraft maintenance as travel continues to increase and the majority of the world’s fleets are operational again. We are delighted to offer to our customers a first-class service and with reliable revisions make a valuable contribution to the stabilization of their flight operations”,
