Anyone visiting or returning to the UK from a Green List destination does not need to self-isolate whether or not they have received the Covid-19 vaccine.
Fully vaccinated Britons from Amber List countries also do not need to be quarantined, but travelers from Red List countries must stay in a government approved hotel.
All arrivals must pass at least one Covid test – but many countries have banned UK residents from entering.
With the most recent changes, it’s important to know the latest travel restrictions and rules for some of the most popular destinations.
Here are the latest tips for anyone planning a trip to the United States, Canada, Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka.
Currently, UK residents cannot enter the United States due to border controls.
Current guidelines on the government website state: “It is not possible for most British nationals to enter the United States if they have been in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Schengen area, Iran, Brazil, China, South Africa or India within the previous 14 days. .
“Those arriving from outside these areas will need to obtain a visa or visa waiver from the Electronic Travel Authorization System (ESTA) to enter or transit the United States as a visitor.
“You should check the US State Department website to determine what you will need. “
Pakistan is currently on the UK’s red list, which means those traveling to the UK from Pakistan must self-quarantine at a government-mandated hotel, regardless of their vaccination status.
Before traveling to England, passengers must take a Covid test within three days, book a quarantine hotel package and complete a passenger locator form.
Only UK or Irish nationals, and those with UK residence rights, will be able to enter the country from countries on the Red List.
Since May 5, Pakistan has restricted the number of international flights to and from Pakistan.
The UK government has said Britons should not travel to Red List countries, but for those who do, a number of restrictions are in place when they arrive in Pakistan.
Travelers are required to show proof of a negative Covid test taken up to 72 hours before the start of the trip.
If you are traveling by plane, you will undergo a rapid antigen test upon arrival at airports in Pakistan.
Travelers who test positive will be transferred to a self-paid facility for a 10-day quarantine.
India is on the UK’s orange list, which means unvaccinated travelers must self-isolate for 10 days upon their return to England, unlike vaccinated Britons.
All scheduled international flights between India and the UK remain suspended, but a limited number of flights continue to operate.
Passengers traveling to India must show a negative Covid test taken within 72 hours, and also take another test at the airport, then self-isolate for seven days.
Most foreign nationals, including Britons, are currently barred from entering Canada by Canadian authorities.
The exclusion does not apply to “temporary foreign workers, most international students, Canadian citizens and permanent residents or their immediate and extended families; and US citizens and permanent residents fully vaccinated as of August 9, 2021 ”.
But, from September 7, all foreign nationals will be allowed to enter if they follow certain rules.
If you are five years and older, you need proof of a negative Covid-19 molecular test that should have been performed within 72 hours of your scheduled flight or arrival at the land border crossing.
If you do not have a negative test, you will be denied boarding or entry.
If molecular testing is not available in your country, then during your mandatory 14-day quarantine, you will need to report to a Public Health Agency of Canada quarantine facility.
Alternatively, you must provide proof of a positive Covid-19 test which was taken between 14 and 90 days before your flight or when you arrive at the border.
Regardless of your nationality, you will not be allowed to board if you have symptoms of coronavirus.
Sri Lanka is also on the UK Red List, which means that only citizens and those residing in the UK are allowed to enter the UK after traveling there.
Those who enter must self-quarantine at a government-mandated hotel at their own expense.
Government rules state that you must not travel to countries or territories on the red list.
For those who choose to travel, entry to Sri Lanka is subject to quarantine and PCR testing.
All passengers must take a Covid test on arrival, and if the test is negative and the traveler is fully vaccinated, they do not need to undergo additional quarantine.
If the test is negative, but the traveler is not vaccinated, the traveler should self-quarantine for 14 days.
