The airline will implement AerQ’s Aerena open computing platform to introduce digital innovations in the cabin throughout the journey, intended to facilitate greater passenger satisfaction and engagement on board the aircraft .
“Through intelligent data capture, analysis and matching, we can learn more about and respond specifically to passenger entertainment demands,” said Maximilian Meintgens, Director of Product and Marketing at Eurowings Discover. . “The continuous development of in-flight entertainment is at the heart of our product strategy.”
Meintgens added: “Passengers want their flights to be as comfortable and entertaining as possible. This is especially true on our medium-haul flights where passengers are less likely to want to see content on smaller personal device screens, experience power issues and juggle seat real estate to know where to place their devices. The partnership between AerQ and Eurowings Discover makes time on board more valuable for passengers.
The full-fledged Aerena on-board system will be supported by state-of-the-art cloud-based infrastructure, which is initially expected to be tested on an A320 test aircraft in 2023.
The Aerena system will enable rapid updates to all content, be it AVOD, Graphical User Interface (GUI) or any application to improve passenger experience and engagement.
“With Aerena, Eurowings Discover can personalize its on-board product and truly differentiate itself from its competitors,” explains Son Yob (Louis) Pak, co-CEO of AerQ, “The carrier can personalize the passenger experience. For example, if you prefer watching action movies, you can see the related content on your screen. In this way, airlines will be more than a means of transport, but will bring meaning, joy and value to travel through their fleets.
The platform will also open up new revenue opportunities for Eurowings Discover, with the airline’s and AerQ’s partner base enabling data-driven selections, mobile device integration and ancillary revenue such as advertising, games, destination content, etc.
