Eurowings Discover: a new airline will connect Tampa to continental Europe
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Tampa International Airport announced on Thursday the launch of a new non-stop service connecting Tampa with mainland Europe.
The service will be provided by Eurowings Discover, the new leisure airline of the Lufthansa Group, the airport said in a statement.
The service from Tampa to Frankfurt, Germany will operate four times a week, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays year round. The flights will last approximately 11 hours.
The news comes as the airline industry tries to recover after COVID-19 restrictions drastically curtailed air travel. The service, which begins on December 16, will be Eurowings’ first flight to the United States. The airline has decided to launch its first flight in the United States ahead of other American destinations, which will follow in 2022.
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Eurowings to Tampa Bay and restore service to Europe and beyond,” said Joe Lopano, CEO of TPA. “This is an essential connection for European travelers coming to Florida and Floridians looking to travel the world. Frankfurt is one of the largest hubs in Europe and truly opens up to the rest of the world. And, as we know, Florida is the premier vacation destination for so many across the pond.
