Cost comparison of Jet2, Boots, BA, TUI, easyJet and Ryanair PCR tests for green and orange countries

Holidaymakers eventually left on international flights after restrictions on overseas travel to the UK were lifted.

Travel agencies have welcomed the increase in demand, but called for an easing of coronavirus restrictions for more destinations.

Portugal, one of the few destinations on the government’s green list without quarantine, on Monday welcomed 16 flights from England to Faro airport in the Algarve.

Travelers returning from a country on the ‘green list‘ will not need to quarantine and will only be required to take one coronavirus test after arrival.

People returning to Britain from ‘Amber List’ countries must be quarantined at home for 10 days, take a post-departure test and take two PCR tests after landing.

Here’s where you can get a PCR test and how much Boots, TUI, Ryanair, easyJet, and Jet2 tests cost.

Covid test travel rules for green, orange and red countries

Although the testing rules are different for each level of the traffic light travel system, all returning travelers need a minimum of two coronavirus tests, reports CambridgeshireLive.

Green countries (ex: Portugal, Gibraltar)

  • Covid test before departure 3 days before return – must be negative to enter UK
  • Covid PCR test on or before day 2 returning to the UK

Orange country (for example, Spain, France)

  • Covid test before departure 3 days before return – must be negative to enter UK
  • Covid PCR test on or before day 2 returning to the UK

  • Covid PCR test on day 8 after returning to UK

  • Travelers must self-isolate at home for 10 days after returning – can ‘test to release’ on day 5 if negative

Red countries (for example, India, South Africa)

All travelers are also required to complete a passenger locator form before traveling abroad.

What Covid test do you need to travel?

There are two types of Covid test – a PCR test and a lateral flow test.

The government has not clarified whether the Covid test before departure to your vacation destination should be a PCR or a lateral flow.

But when you return to the UK, you will need to take the PCR test.

The government is asking holidaymakers to book a private coronavirus test at their own expense rather than using the NHS testing service.

A list of private coronavirus PCR test providers is available on the government website. Prices range from £ 150 to £ 350 for a test kit.

People traveling from the UK to Europe could pay an average of £ 306 to leave and return to the UK, the Mirror reports.

And don’t forget to check your vacation destination’s testing requirements before making any plans.

How to book a Boots PCR Covid test

Boots has partnered with MyHealthChecked and sells home PCR tests for £ 65, which you can buy at boots.com and have it delivered to your door.

There is also an in-store Covid PCR testing service available for £ 99 in over 200 of its UK stores, which offers results within 48 hours.

How to book a TUI PCR Covid test

If you are traveling with TUI, you could get a £ 20 Covid test kit included in your holiday package.

TUI has partnered with Chronomics to offer its cheaper tests, which will include the cost of shipping and returning the kits.

Four packages will be offered – two for green list destinations, two for orange destinations (the company does not operate trips to red destinations).

  • Green package at £ 20 per person containing 1 x side flow test before departure and 1 PCR test inbound for the second day
  • Green package at £ 60 per person containing 1 x outgoing PCR test with courier costs 7 days per week included, 1 x side flow test before departure and 1 x inbound PCR test for the second day
  • Orange package at £ 50 per person containing 1 x side flow test before departure and 2 x inbound PCR tests for days 2 and 8
  • Orange package at £ 90pp containing 1 x outgoing PCR test with courier costs 7 days a week included, 1 x side flow test before departure and 2 x inbound PCR tests for days 2 and 8

Brits can book their test kits through a dedicated booking center (launched May 10), an hour after booking their vacation.

All they will need is their booking reference, departure date and country of travel.
